UNITED STATES-BRED SUPERNATURAL POWER yesterday climbed a further $764,000 up the Mouttet Mile qualification ladder with victory over fellow American, TIZ TOK, in yesterday’s Viceroy Trophy at a mile.

Already sitting 10th among horses based in Jamaica prior to January 1, 2025, boasting earnings of $3,329,600, SUPERNATURAL POWER jumped to seventh with stakes of $4,093,600 from seven outings this season,

SUPERNATURAL POWER pushed stablemate RIDEALLDAY, PACK PLAYS and Winston Griffiths Classic winner, local-bred PRETTY PERFECT, down a place each, eighth, ninth and 10th, respectively, in heated tussles for a spot in the US$300,000 Mouttet Mile set for December 6.

After finishing a close fourth behind last year’s Mouttet Mile runner-up, LEGACY ISLE, in the October 4 Gold Cup for grade-one horses, SUPERNATURAL POWER was a cinch to land the Viceroy Trophy, a grade lower among open-allowance runners.

Returning with visor refitted on a track made fast by mid-afternoon rain, SUPERNATURAL POWER sat third off the early fractions, allowing stablemate MAJOR DANGER to tackle fleet-of-foot native-bred MAMMA MIA.

MAJOR DANGER got rid of MAMMA MIA after three furlongs, telegraphing Dick Cardenas to make his move aboard SUPERNATURAL POWER, who joined her stablemate at the half-mile marker and kicked on after a half-furlong.

TIZ TOK, a five-year-old American, who debuted locally last year with a fifth-place run behind FUNCAANDUN in the Mouttet Mile, his connections desperate to improve his qualifying standings from 21st on a list of 31 local-based since January 1, made a threatening move to go second in chase of SUPERNATURAL POWER.

However, holding TIZ TOK’s ticket in her saddlebag, a three and three-quarter length win at seven furlongs on September 13, SUPERNATURAL POWER responded eagerly to Cardenas’ urgings in the stretch run to hold her older rival at bay, winning by two lengths in a fast 1:36.2, the fastest time recorded at a mile in years.

The Mouttet Mile has three American invaders confirmed, horses not domiciled in Jamaica before January 1, Sunday’s fast-time winner for Jason DaCosta, DOTHRAKI, being the only one to have raced so far.

FORTUNA BELLE, who has 2025 earnings of US$31,980, will race out of Robert Pearson’s barn for owners Dr Graham Brown and M Chai Chung. Anthony Nunes will send out NAUTICAL STAR for One Guyana Racing Stable.

The three-meet Heroes holiday weekend was dominated by champion and leading jockey Raddesh Roman, who closed the 10-race card with 9-5 chance JAMES, his seventh winner for the carnival and 108th overall this season.

Claiming jockey Richie Shakes rode a three-timer - SPARKLING FIRE, BOBBYTWOBAD and NATURAL DANCER — emerging the day’s top rider.

October’s seven-meet month of racing closes on Saturday.
