IN A significant boost for Jamaican cricket, the Jamaica Cricket Association has named former under-19 captain Daniel Beckford and seasoned opener Rashada Williams to lead the men’s and women’s squads, respectively, at the upcoming Bolivarian Games in Peru.

The regional multisport event, which runs from November 22 to December 7 in Ayacucho, Lima, will see Jamaica’s cricketers competing against regional rivals Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago, Anguilla, and other Central and South American nations.

The men’s team, to be coached by former West Indies wicketkeeper Carlton Baugh Jr, boasts a core of players with senior national experience. Beckford, a wicket-keeper, will have the services of fast bowler Gordon Bryan and batting all-rounder Alywn Williams at his disposal, blending youth and experience for the tournament.

On the women’s side, the leadership of Rashada Williams will be complemented by the experience of veteran batter Chedean Nation. The squad also includes stalwart players like Neisha Ann Waisome and the spin of Vanessa Watts, all under the guidance of regular national coach Shane Brooks.

The selection of the four competing nations was based on recent regional performances. Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago, and Jamaica were chosen from the last Super 50 Cup, while Anguilla earned their place by winning the Leeward Islands tournament.

The Bolivarian Games were established in 1938 to honour the legacy of Simón Bolívar. Organised by the Bolivarian Sports Organisation, the event aims to promote unity, friendship, and athletic excellence among the nations he helped liberate.
