Easy assignment for Digital One
AFTER failing by a length to land the gamble at 7-2 behind fellow American DOTHRAKI making
his local debut, October 19, DIGITAL ONE gets an easier pace to dominate in Sunday’s Alsafra Trophy at seven and a half furlongs.
Quietly whispered to upstage DOTHRAKI, one of three American invaders flown in for the December 6 Mouttet Mile, DIGITAL ONE ran a brave race from off the pace at five and a half furlongs after a stuttering start.
After shying from CHOCOMO on leaving the gate, almost unseating Dane Dawkins, roguish DIGITAL ONE started fighting for her head before being settled behind the field being led to the half-mile marker by a GIFT FROM BEN.
DOTHRAKI and INCREDIBLE JO took over on the far turn, relegating A GIFT FROM BEN, while stablemates PRINCE AMAAN and TEFLON DON raced ahead of DIGITAL ONE, who started a remarkable recovery with a sweeping move on the outside.
Straightening five-wide, DIGITAL ONE stormed home in mid-track to go second a furlong out but was too late to catch the debutant, who was a winner for Bob Baffert at Los Alamitos in June 2024, clocking 1:17.4 for six and a half furlongs.
DOTHRAKI, who had galloped 1:06.1 at exercise for his local debut, won in 1:05.4, five pounds heavier than DIGITAL ONE, whose coup was exposed by the foreigner.
After being outbattled by TIZ TOK at seven furlongs in the Eros Trophy on June 7, DIGITAL ONE next went into hibernation, failing to figure in three races featuring last year’s Mouttet Mile runner-up, LEGACY ISLE, who won two of the events and was surprised by WALL STREET TRADER in the third.
Temperamental at the gate but unbeaten in her first three starts, DIGITAL ONE was moved from Jason DaCosta to Gary Subratie’s barn the summer of 2024 after being beaten by stablemate CHOCOMO at five furlongs straight.
Subratie enjoyed a golden patch with the Uncle Lino speedster, completing a hat-trick of wins in
March 2025, a run which took her to grade one after a smooth victory against PACK PLAYS and WALL STREET TRADER at five furlongs round.
DIGITAL ONE next finished down the track behind CHAMPION BUBBLER at five furlongs straight in May’s Reggae Trophy. However, she somehow sprang to life a month later in the
Eros, leading in terrific splits before TIZ TOK gobbled her close home in 1:25.1.
Having served her six months in ‘conditions jail’, DIGITAL ONE, winner of a grade-one race designated open allowance because she had skipped a class, gets a second shot at overnight allowance after being ambushed by DOTHRAKI, an overseas winner.
DOTHRAKI returned in Sunday’s grade-one Port Royal Sprint, matching strides with DESERT OF MALIBU and PACK PLAYS into the lane before RIDEALLDAY pounced late to land the Mouttet Mile win-and-you’re-in.
