St Jago’s girls seek redemption

Once the queens of the 4x100-metre relays, St Jago High School have struggled over the past few seasons to maintain that dominance. But come this Saturday, their Class 2 team, led by the outstanding Adora Campbell, looks set to set the place on ‘fire’ at the Gibson McCook Relays.
Last year they could only manage a sixth-place finish in 47.34 seonds, but that is expected to change big time when they compete in the event on Saturday.
Led by Campbell, they gave fans a teaser at the Camperdown Classics in an overwhelming win, blowing away their rivals to clock 45.93, relegating defending Gibson Relays champions Hydel to second place in 46.72. Holmwood were third in 46.88.
Edwin Allen, winners at the Central Hurdles, Relays and Field Events meet in 46.30, finishing ahead of Holmwood (46.40), with the outstanding Kerielle Etienne in their line-up, will be hoping to spoil the Monk Street-based girls’ victory bid, but it will take something special for them to do so.
The Corey Bennett-coached Hydel girls will also want to show that their second-place finish at Camperdown Classics was just a small blip along the way and will be pumped up to reverse that placing.
Corporate Area champions Wolmer’s Grls’ School, led by the outstanding Natrece East, will be hoping to improve big time on their winning time of 46.88 to be in the mix.
However, all other teams will be running for the minor medals, as St Jago is a cinch for the win with another sub-46-second clocking in the making.
