KINGSTON:

Supreme Ventures Racing and Entertainment Limited (SVREL) has announced that it is introducing significant changes to the qualification conditions for the 2026 staging of the Mouttet Mile Invitational, the marquee race day at Caymanas Park.

The update marks the end of the popular ‘Win and You’re In’ format and ushers in a new, comprehensive points-based system designed to heighten competition, reward consistent performance, and generate even greater excitement throughout the racing calendar.

The ‘Win and You’re In’ feature, introduced since the second staging of the Mouttet Mile in 2023, granted winners of select qualifying races automatic entry into the prestigious event. While the initiative successfully elevated the stakes of those races, SVREL has determined that a more merit-based framework will better reflect the depth of talent across the local racing calendar and create a richer, more compelling road to the Mile.

A dedicated committee has been convened to develop the new points system, taking into account performance across a broader range of races and conditions. The committee comprises SVREL team members Solomon Sharpe, executive chairman; Denzil Miller, racing secretary; and Arielle Beckles, brand optimisation manager, along with journalists and horse-racing enthusiasts, Ian Burnett and Ainsley Walters.

“The Mouttet Mile is the most-anticipated race in the English-speaking Caribbean, and we are always looking at ways to make it bigger, better, and more competitive,” said Sharpe. “The new points system will not only reward the best horses in training but will also keep fans engaged from the very first qualifying race. We believe this change will be warmly welcomed by owners, trainers, and racing fans alike.”

Full details of the new qualification points system will be unveiled at the official Mouttet Mile press launch, scheduled for Saturday, March 21.
