Jamaica College (JC) crowned themselves ISSA urban area under-14 and under-16 football champions after victory over Kingston College (KC) in the respective finals at Stadium East yesterday.
Goals from Tevin Savage (11th) and Emanuel Donalds (80th+4) carried the Old Hope Road-based school to a 2-1 win in the under-16 decider.
Davion Clarke netted Kingston College’s consolation.
JC took the under-14 title 3-2 on penalties, after playing to a 1-1 draw.
JC under-16 coach Raymond Watson said they did their homework on their favoured opponents and were always confident.
“We did our homework, and based on what we did against them the last game, I thought they would have come and done the same thing.
“They were thinking about us. We were never thinking about them. I was quietly confident we would have won the game,” he said.
He was also pleased they won both titles on the day.
“Coach (Wayne) Palmer, I told him congrats before he played the under-14 game and congrats after he won. After my game he said congrats, and that youth football is our thing,” he added.
KC coach Jermaine Miller said JC executed better on the day.
“We expected them to come out and play like that. But the goal made the difference. We created the chances, but they were the better team in terms of how they executed on the day,” he stated.
In the under-14 final, Owayne Feautado, with his 19th goal of the season, in the 46th minute, fired KC in front.
However, that was short-lived as Namar Francis (51st) equalised not long after to send the game to penalties, from which JC emerged 3-2 winners.
Winning coach Wayne Palmer, who returned to the helm after two years away, due to cancer treatment, was happy to reclaim the title.
“I have to give KC props because they came out and tried. My team, Jamaica College, did not come to lie down and die, and it was an end-to-end game.
“In the first half, KC had most of the game, and I told my team at half-time that teams will have their moments. So when you get your time, make sure you make use of your time.”
