Freshly crowned Class One Girls 1500 metres champion Jovi Rose of Holmwood Technical has set her sights on completing the middle-distance double at the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls’ Athletics Championships at the National Stadium.

The 17-year-old Rose produced a strong run to capture gold in the 1500m, clocking 4:45.15 to finish ahead of Sydney Pagon High School’s Annatasseca Blackwood (4:45.43) and Hydel High’s Rihanna Morgan (4:47.55).

For Rose, the victory marked a significant step forward after securing silver in the Class Two event last year.

“I am very grateful for this gold medal because I could not have done it without the help of God and my coaches,” said Rose. “It was a very rough race because all the competitors are very good, but I was always confident that I was going to win.”

Buoyed by her success, Rose is now turning her attention to the 800m, where she is aiming to add another gold medal to her tally.

‘BIG MOTIVATION’

“This is a big motivation for me because I have the 800 metres coming up, and I also want to win that as well,” she added. “But it is going to be difficult because all the competitors are very good.”

Rose qualified for today’s 800 metres final yesterday after placing third in her heat.

“I am very determined to leave this championship with two individual gold medals.”

Rose noted that her disciplined approach to training was a key factor behind her success this season.

“I work very hard in training, I rest a lot, and I also listen to my coaches and follow their instructions, and the end result is a gold medal for me,” she shared.

“I am very happy with the time, but I know that I can run much faster than that.”
