Even with a second bite of the cherry, Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz will not be at this year’s FIFA World Cup in Mexico, Canada, and the United States.

The Jamaicans, who went into an Intercontinental Playoff as a last resort after failing to qualify through the Concacaf World Cup qualification group, lost 0-1 to the Democratic Republic of Congo in a game that needed extra time.

The Jamaicans, who were in the playoff final by virtue of a 1-0 win over New Caledonia, lasted 100 minutes against their more fancied African opponents, but lost the plot on a corner, bundled home by Axel Tuanzebe.

The result means the DR Congo will now play in Group K alongside Portugal, Uzbekistan, and Colombia.

The World Cup begins on June 11 with another Concacaf team, Mexico up against another African team, South Africa.
