Deshanna Cole scored the all-important goal for Cavalier yesterday to edge Real Mona 1-0 in Zone A action of the Jamaica Women’s Premier League (JWPL) at the Alpha Institute field.
Cole secured all three points for last year’s beaten finalists with her strike in the 68th minute of the contest.
It was an even opening stanza as both teams carved out opportunities at goal, but neither could find the back of the net by the half-time whistle.
Cavalier came close after the restart but Tatyana Polack could not direct her header on target from a corner.
They finally found purchase when Cole opened the scoring just past the hour mark with a poacher’s effort.
She timed her run to perfection and snuck into the right area to tap in a loose ball from Polack’s initial effort.
Cavalier came close to a second when Ashlee Sawyers picked up the ball on the edge of the box, but her volley rose high over the crossbar.
Real Mona had a golden opportunity to pull level when the speedy Breanna Mar skipped past her marker and went streaking down the right wing in time added.
However, her cross to the back post was just too high for Hayley DaCosta who had the goal at her mercy.
The play did not end there as Olivia Ashbourne was on hand to pick up the errant cross to put the ball across the face of goal for a second time.
However, it was a repeat of the first delivery – too high for Mar to head home.
The win is Cavalier’s second of the season and they remain second in Zone A with nine points.
Real Mona have fallen to their second defeat of the season and remain on five points.
Also in Zone A action, leaders Arnett returned to winning ways, edging Proven Girls 1-0 at York Castle to remain atop the zone with 13 points.
In the opening game of the double header at the Alpha Institute, Federal United snatched 1-0 win over Mile Gully in Zone B action.
Adriana Hall scored the decisive goal for Federal in the 48th minute with a lucky turn of events.
Hall burst through on goal but let fly a tame effort, which should have been saved by goalkeeper Morishka Smith.
However, an unfortunate bobble at the last moment saw the ball striking Smith in the face before bumbling across the line.
With the win, Federal move to nine points and sit third in the zone, while Mile Gully sit fifth with three.
Also in Zone B action, Los Perfectos picked up a big win, thumping Springers United 6-1 to maintain second spot with 12 points.
Defending champions Frazsiers Whip were the biggest winners of the afternoon and lead the way in the zone with a perfect 15 points after their 8-1 demolition of Real MoBay.
