WILLEMSTAD, Curacao (CMC):
Three months after stepping down as head coach of Curacao, Dick Advocaat is returning to lead the Dutch island at next month’s FIFA World Cup.
The 78-year-old will take over the reins as head coach following the recent resignation of Fred Rutten.
Advoccat created history back in February when he led Curacao to their first-ever World Cup, but he resigned shortly after because of his daughter’s health.
Rutten took over but subsequently stepped down following a run of poor results that included a 5-1 defeat to Australia and a 2-0 loss to China in international friendlies.
On Monday, the FFK said Rutten, 63, had resigned following “constructive discussions” among federation officials.
Reports in the Dutch media suggest Advocaat agreed to return to his former role because his daughter’s health has improved.
