Foreman, Johnson book tickets to NCAA Championships

SHANTAE Foreman and Britannie Johnson  booked their tickets for next month's NCAA Championships after first-day action  at the East Regional Outdoor Championships in Lexington, Kentucky, on Thursday.

 Foreman, representing Clemson University, finished second in the long jump with a distance of 6.47m.

In the field, Johnson, representing Purdue University, ended ninth in the women's shot with a heave of 16.91m to also advance to next month's NCAA Championships. 

Five Jamaicans booked their spots to today's quarter-finals of the women's 100m hurdles and will be hoping to finish among the top 12 to advance. Leading the way was Oneika Wilson of Clemson, who finished second in her heat in 12.79 to be the fourth fastest overall. 

Others joining her were Janela Spencer of Ohio State University, who won her heat in 12.83 to be fifth overall; Sallecia Myles of Louisiana State University, who was second in her heat in 13.04 and 13th overall.; Briana Campbell of Clemson  was third in her heat and 16th overall, and Danae Nembhard of Auburn was third in her heat and 22nd overall.

Both Gabrielle Matthews of the University of Florida and Shenese Walker of Florida State advanced to the quarterfinals of the women's 100m. Matthews won her heat in 11.09 to be sixth overall while Walker was second in her heat in 11.15 to be second overall. Matthews is also through to the 200m quarter-finals after finishing second in her heat in 22.68, which placed her eighth overall.

World leader Dejanea Oakley of Georgia is safely through to the women's 400m after finishing second in her heat in 50.69 to be third overall, with Rushana Dwyer of Northwestern State joining her after finishing second in her heat and sixth overall.

 Over at the West Regional meet in Fayetteville, Arkansas, Carleta Bernard, Abigail Wolfe,  and Tonie Ann Forbes all advanced  to todays quarterfinals in their respective events on the track. 

Representing the University of Texas, both Bernard and Wolfe advanced in the 100m. Bernard was second in her heat in 11.23 and ninth overall  while Wolfe ended third in her heat and 14th overall in 11.33. 

Forbes advanced from her heat of the 100m hurdles after a second-place finish in 13.23, which placed her 11th overall.
