DUBLIN, Ireland (CMC):

Following dominant victories in their opening two matches of the Evara Tri-Nation T20I series, West Indies Women’s captain Hayley Matthews believes her team is clicking at the right time, with the Women’s World Cup less than two weeks away.

The Windies began the series with a dominant eight-wicket win over Ireland Women on Thursday and followed that up by defeating Pakistan Women by 25 runs in a high-scoring affair on Friday.

Matthews said she was especially pleased that several different players had stepped up to the plate.

“I think as a group we’re in a pretty good space right now. We had the clinical win yesterday [Thursday] over Ireland and felt pretty dominant in that one and then today, to post a total like we did definitely put some confidence in our batting line-up, and to do it with so many different people contributing was really good to see.

“At the same time too, when we go with the ball in both of the matches it shows how many bowling options we really have. I think we’ve used about 10 or 11 bowlers so far for the series in the two matches, which shows that we have a lot of people being called on,” Matthews said.

“So it’s definitely pretty reassuring after the first two matches and hopefully we can finish off the series even better.”

Meanwhile, vice-captain and Player-of-the-Match against Pakistan, Chinelle Henry, said the team was full of confidence heading into the World Cup.

“Yesterday [Thursday] and today [Friday] was a completely different playing XI and to see people who were on the bench yesterday, the way they came into the team and just fit in with the performances and stuff, it was pretty good to see that with a switch in the XI we have players who can actually step up and help the team

“It’s a really good look and it’s a really good mix, heading into the T20 World Cup,” Henry said.
