Douglas shines at JAAA/Puma meet

HOLLAND HIGH schoolgirl  Shanoya Douglas and Sandrey Davidson were the top  performers at last Saturday's JAAA Puma  All Comers at the National Stadium.

   Persistent rain throughout the meet forced the organisers to abandon some of the events.  In what was the final warm-up meet ahead of the JAAA National Senior and Junior National Championships organisers cancelled all discus and sprint hurdles events.

 

The outstanding Douglas, who is set to dominate the junior 100 and 200 metres at the championships, was involved in the 400m on Saturday where she produced the fastest time of the night. Douglas clocked 53.66 seconds to win the women's one-lap event ahead of Edwin Allen High's Maria Crossfield, who posted a personal best 54.51 with Immaculate Conception High's Davine Dickenson third in 54.57.

Edwin Allen's  Alexee Henry, who is set to represent Trinidad and Tobago at this summer's World Under-20 Championships, sped to victory in the women's 100m in 11.34. Trisha Lowe of GC Foster College won her heat in 11.38 to be second overall, with Nia Wedderburn-Goodison of Dynamic Speed third in 11.44 and Serena Cole of Swept Track Club fourth in 11.51.

Davidson, the former St Catherine High sprinter who has shown good form in his first season at SprinTec Track Club, topped the field in the men's 100m. He clocked 10.27 ahead of Tyquendo Tracy of Dynamic Speed Track Club (10.43) and Jaheim Watson of GC Foster College (10.47).

Quarter-miler Christopher Taylor  was the top performer in the men's 200m. He won in  20.21 ahead of Tracy (20.98) and  Shakar Williams of Titans Track Club, third in 21.09.

Derrick Luke of Racers was the best among the men in the 400m, He won in 46.13 with Jabari Matheson of William Knibb High School second in 46.74 and Demar Murray of Titans Track Club third in 46.97.

Wolmer's Girls' Natrece East romped to victory in the women's 200 metres, clocking 23.96 ahead of Jura Levy of Swept Track Club, second in 24.06.

In the field events, Selethal Johnson of Munro College captured the high jump after clearing 2.00m, the same height cleared by second-place finisher Kabibi Thomas of Wolmer's Boys'. Talshawn Edwards  topped the  boys' long jump with 6.85m, ahead of Jevaughn Pryce, who was second with 6.72m.
