Multitime men's national senior triple jump champion Jordan Scott is on a mission as he aims for the world record in the event, held by Great Britain's Jonathan Edwards with his 18.29-metre mark set in Gothenburg, Sweden, in 1995.

Scott, who celebrates his 29th birthday in a few days (June 29), is in tremendous form in the hop, step, and jump event, where he is the Diamond League leader on 22 points.

Scott, who recently produced a lifetime best of 17.69m to finish second behind Portugal's Pedro Pichardo’s world lead of 17.71m at the Doha Diamond League, was at the National Stadium on Sunday, the final day of the National Senior Championships, but did not compete in the event.

"It was very hectic for me after coming straight from the Diamond League in Doha and only arriving at the trials on the morning of the competition. In the warm-up I felt a bit sore and didn’t want to take any chances, but we asked for a medical exemption for the Commonwealth Games and hope I will be selected as I am looking forward to the competition there," said Scott, who is hoping for his first major title in the event.

It has been an exceptional season so far for the former Campion College graduate, who is hoping to continue that great form.

"It's been good figuring things out after coming out of the World Indoor Championships with a silver medal, and after that good form, it was about refocusing for the outdoor season and taking that good form forward," he said.

"Competing against the best of the best in the event on the Diamond League circuit is a blessing as these are people I looked up to. Competing with them and being competitive as well feels good," he stated.

Already qualified for the Diamond League Finals, set for Brussels in early September, he wants to continue his great form for the remainder of the season.

"I have already qualified for the Diamond League Finals, but I want to continue that winning form at the Lausanne Diamond League in August, the Diamond League Finals, and also the Commonwealth Games as I think I can win this one for my first global title," he shared.

"Definitely, I want to break the world record set by Edwards, but at the same time, winning is at the forefront," said Scott, who stated that he was a bit disappointed that the triple jump is not part of the Ultimate Championships, which are scheduled to be contested for the first time this September in Budapest.
