Chambers goes in chase of more JPL minutes with Tru-Juice

National senior team goalkeeper Tafari Chambers says his move from Mount Pleasant Academy to newly promoted Tru-Juice FC in the Jamaica Premier League (JPL) represents a positive step in his career.

According to Chambers, the move should provide him with more regular playing time and strengthen his push for a place in Jamaica’s senior national team.

The 25-year-old spent the past four seasons at Mount Pleasant and has joined Tru-Juice on a season-long loan from the St Ann-based club.

Chambers made 14 appearances for Mount Pleasant last season and has earned three caps for Jamaica’s senior national team.

Fresh challenge

He said the move provides a fresh challenge and an opportunity to make a greater impact.

“It is a different environment and it is good to take on different competition. It is giving myself another challenge and hopefully I can keep this team up in the league and also make the play-offs,” Chambers said.

Chambers added that he has high expectations for Tru-Juice, noting that the squad has the quality and determination to make an impact in the JPL this season.

“My expectation is to always win, because I don’t like to lose, and I don’t want to sit down and watch the play-offs because I want us to be there and playing among the top teams in the competition,” he said.

“I think this club has a lot to offer in the Premier League and we are going to give a lot of problems in the league this season. This is not a bad squad, because it is a squad that we can work with and build on as well. We are still getting in some more players, but the players that are here now have shown that they are committed and they have been working hard in training.”

Chambers also said the move could boost his chances of returning to the national team, as regular playing time will allow him to maintain his sharpness and continue competing for selection.

“I am going to be getting more playing time and, once you are getting more playing and performing, then there is no doubt that you will be in the national team,” he said.

“So, I am going to stay calm and ready whenever I am called upon.”
