DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (CMC):
West Indies all-rounder Justin Greaves is among three players nominated for the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Men’s Player of the Month award for July.
Greaves has been shortlisted alongside England’s Harry Brook and Bangladesh’s Tanzid Hasan.
The 32-year-old Barbadian starred in the Test series against Sri Lanka, which West Indies won 1-0, and in the drawn two-match Test series against Pakistan. He was named Player of the Series on both occasions.
Greaves was at his brilliant best in the first Test against Sri Lanka in Antigua, scoring a superb 180 to help West Indies mount a strong response to Sri Lanka’s total.
He then produced another outstanding performance at the end of the month, this time with the ball against Pakistan in Trinidad. Greaves claimed 5-27 in the first innings before returning figures of 2-12 in the second to help West Indies secure victory in the opening Test.
He finished the month with 215 runs at an impressive average of 71.66 from two Tests, while also taking eight wickets at an average of just 10.25.
Greaves also featured in two One-Day Internationals, scoring 32 runs at a strike rate of 114.28.
Meanwhile, Brook enjoyed a highly successful month for England and played a key role in his team’s white-ball success against India.
Although he scored only 31 runs across three One-Day Internationals, he amassed 229 runs in five Twenty20 Internationals at an outstanding average of 114.50 and a remarkable strike rate of 214.01.
His performances in the shortest format earned him the Player of the Series award after he finished as the leading run-scorer.
Hasan emerged as one of Bangladesh’s most consistent batters during their white-ball series against Zimbabwe, ending July as the leading run-scorer across both formats.
The opener made a series of important contributions in the One-Day International series, scoring 159 runs in three matches at an average of 53.00 and a strike rate of 89.83. He also scored 140 runs in the Twenty20 Internationals at an average of 70.00 and a strike rate of 127.27.
