Mount Pleasant ‘must be more ruthless’ – Warner Brown

Striker Warner Brown believes Mount Pleasant FA must be sharper in front of goal after they were held to a 1-1 draw away to Salcedo FC in their Concacaf Caribbean Cup Group B clash at the Estadio Moca in the Dominican Republic on Wednesday night.

This, after the St Ann-based team gave up a 1-0 lead.

“It was a tough away game. We have to be more ruthless in the box,” said Brown, who had given Mount Pleasant the lead in the seventh minute from a tight angle.

Sebastian Ramos scored Salcedo FC’s equaliser in the 49th minute.

And with Mount Pleasant pushing for the winner goalkeeper Favio Marte was key for the Dominican Republic side, making a double save in minute 66.

‘Gave away a cheap goal’

The result means Mount Pleasant missed the opportunity to claim their first win of the campaign and climb to third in Group B.

“We gave away a cheap goal and we should have definitely scored more,” Brown reasoned.

Quizzed what the team needs to improve ahead of their next fixture, Brown who became the first player to score in each of the last three editions of the tournament: in 2024 with Arnett Gardens FC, and in 2025 and 2026 with Mount Pleasant FA, said, “We just need to be more ruthless in the box again, score more of our chances, and defend our goal to the best of our abilities.”

“It’s a crucial game coming up. We definitely need three points,” the striker added.

Meanwhile head coach Theodore Whitmore, speaking at the post-match press conference, was quick to credit the hosts for their approach to the match.

“I think first and foremost, we have to give credit to our opponents, Salcedo. They were hungry this afternoon,” he said.

The former Reggae Boyz player and head coach admitted Mount Pleasant struggled to convert their early advantage into a more comfortable lead.

“I think we were lacking in the final third. We got the perfect start [but] we didn’t manage (to convert chances) in key moments,” he explained, adding that those missed moments ultimately cost his team the win.

On whether fatigue played a role in the second-half collapse, Whitmore pushed back, pointing instead to a lack of urgency.

“I wouldn’t say tired, but I think we didn’t put ourselves out there this afternoon. I think we have a lot more [we] could have given,” he said, noting that Salcedo simply “were a bit more hungry than us today.”

The defending champions, who are now fifth in the six-team group on just one point, will next face Jamaica Premier League champions Portmore United at the National Stadium on September 9.
