Molynes stage dramatic comeback

Molynes United produced a spirited performance to record an exciting 3-2 come-from-behind victory over Treasure Beach in their Jamaica Premier League encounter at Stadium East yesterday.

Captain Tyrigue Wilson (45th) and substitutes Oquassa Chong (87th) and Shavon Miller (88th) scored for Molynes United. Adrian Johnson (41st) and Jhanni Flemmings (43rd) were on target for Treasure Beach, who led 2-0 after 43 minutes.

Jermaine Thomas, head coach of Molynes United, said he was delighted with his team’s effort because they never gave up and fought right to the end.

“I didn’t think that we were beaten at any point in the game because they scored early, so that gave us sufficient time to reorganise and plan, because we knew what we had to do,” said Thomas.

“We were turning over possession too easily and that affected us somewhat, and it crippled how we wanted to play. However, we got it right in the second half and we made a few changes, and that made a huge difference for us,” he said.

Treasure Beach head coach Kemar Ricketts was disappointed with his team’s performance.

“It is a mere lack of concentration. I think our preparations started late and everybody would have known that, hence the changes in the game, but such is life and so we just have to try again,” said Ricketts, who made five changes at once midway through the second half.

“It wasn’t a mistake, because the players were winded, and so we just have to be honest about how we go about things. We saw what was happening when we were leading 2-1 and we wanted some control in the game, and so we needed some fresh legs, but the players have to focus for 90 minutes,” he said.

Treasure Beach started confidently, dominating possession in the opening stages. They came close to scoring in the fifth minute, but Johnson’s close-range effort was spectacularly saved by goalkeeper Glenroy Samuel.

Johnson, who enjoyed an excellent first half, was presented with another opportunity, but with Samuel at his mercy, he blasted his shot from 12 yards over the crossbar.

However, he made amends in the 41st minute when he arrived in the centre of the box and fired home a cross from Daniel Hardy to give Treasure Beach the lead.

The advantage was doubled two minutes later when midfielder Jhanni Flemmings unleashed a rasping 35-yard strike that rocketed past Samuel.

Wilson pulled one back for Molynes United on the stroke of half-time with a powerful right-footed effort beyond custodian Mowey Morgan.

Molynes United emerged for the second half in search of an equaliser and got it through Chong, who headed home a free kick from the right delivered by Wilson.

Miller then sealed the victory two minutes from full time, powering home a header past Morgan to complete the comeback.
