Maroons name change on the horizon

The Chapelton Maroons are preparing for a significant change in identity as the club relocates from Clarendon to St Ann, with the possibility of dropping the ‘Chapelton’ name from its official title.

The move comes following a change in ownership of Turner’s Oval, the club’s former home. The new owners, Cavalier, now hold the rights to alter the name.

“Obviously, we’ve been using Phoenix all these years, eventually we have to have a name that is reflective of where we are and who we are,” said Butler. “One thing we’ll never forget is the Chapelton Maroons. So whatever the name we keep, it will also have the same in there,” Chapelton Maroons Technical Director Craig Butler explained.

Butler added that the club remains appreciative of its roots.

“We appreciate the community, we appreciate the people, we appreciate the club, and we appreciate the history.”

He also highlighted the club’s long-standing connection to St Ann.

“Phoenix has also spent 15 years at Drax Hall. It feels like coming home, when we bought Chapelton Maroons we wanted to be a part of the community.”

Chapelton Maroons are seventh in the Jamaica Premier League standings.
