Waterhouse FC produced a dominant display to thrash Chapelton Maroons 6-0 in their Jamaica Premier League encounter at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex yesterday.

The Drewsland-based club were led to victory by goals from Siegle Knight in the ninth minute, Rohan Brown (15th), Colorado Murray (29th), Mario Simms (60th), substitute Cardel Benbow (72nd) and Shamarie Dallas (76th).

Donovan Duckie’s Waterhouse have now scored 13 goals in their first three matches of the season.

Despite the emphatic victory, Duckie said his team is still some way from its best.

“What we tried to do week in, week out, we try to prepare tactically for each opponent,” said Duckie.

“Kudos to the backroom staff, they gave me a good bit of information so we worked it in the game and we adapt to these particular scenarios, and at a point I thought that we just did enough. It is still not our best game, but kudos to the guys for getting six goals,” he said.

Maroons Technical Director Craig Butler said it was a disappointing performance from his team.

“Sometimes in order to learn and improve, you have to be beat and you have to feel it and you have to feel the wounds, you have to lick the wounds, and you have to rise again,” Butler said.

“I am very disappointed in us, and maybe I failed as the coach for my team and I take full responsibility for this. I am not going to blame them, so we going to go back to drawing board and we are going to put in some work,” he said.

Three-goal lead in half-hour

Waterhouse dominated possession from the opening whistle and quickly established control, racing to a three-goal lead within the first half-hour.

Knight opened the scoring when his powerful right-footed strike from about 30 yards slipped through the hands of goalkeeper Roje Williams.

The hosts doubled their advantage six minutes later when Brown fired home from a well-weighted cross by captain Ky-Mani Campbell.

Waterhouse continued to dictate play and were awarded a penalty in the 28th minute after Murray was brought down inside the area.

Murray stepped up and calmly slotted past Williams, Waterhouse’s first-choice goalkeeper last season, to extend the lead to 3-0.

The Maroons started the second half brightly and nearly reduced the deficit in the 53rd minute, but substitute Leonardo Jebbison’s close-range effort was brilliantly saved by Waterhouse goalkeeper Akeem Bernard.

However, Waterhouse quickly regained control and were awarded another penalty in the 60th minute when substitute Leo Campbell was fouled inside the area.

Simms made no mistake from the spot to put Waterhouse 4-0 ahead.

Benbow added the fifth goal 12 minutes later after capitalising on a mix-up in the Maroons’ defence, rounding Williams before calmly finishing.

Dallas, who enjoyed an outstanding match, completed the rout in the 76th minute with a neat finish from six yards.
