Arnett Gardens climbed two places in the Legend Jamaica Premier League standings yesterday with a resounding 4-1 victory over Molynes United at the Anthony Spaulding Complex.

Giovanni Taylor (sixth, 61st) led the charge with a brace, while Joel Jones (26th) and Rushike Kelson added the other goals for the home side.

Tyrique Wilson grabbed Molynes’ consolation goal in the 55th minute.

The victory lifted Arnett from 10th to eighth in the table on eight points, and assistant coach Fabian Taylor credited his players for their execution of the game plan.

“The players played to the game plan. We asked them to do a job and they did very well in terms of what we ask them to do.

“Arnett is a team known for scoring goals and getting four goals was very pleasing. We have a young team and they are playing good football and we can only get better from here,” he commented.

Arnett took just six minutes to open the scoring when Taylor headed home from a Tarique Jones cross.

Three minutes later they came close to doubling their lead after goalkeeper Glenroy Samuels palmed Jones’ low shot against the post before denying Taylor, who attempted to force the rebound inside the near post.

Molynes responded through Marlon Pennicooke, who broke in behind Arnett’s defence but failed to beat Jaedine White after a heavy touch narrowed the angle.

Oquassa Chong went close to pulling Molynes level in the 23rd minute after winning possession inside the area, but his close-range effort was deflected wide.

Arnett increased their advantage minutes later when Joel Jones headed home from a quickly taken short corner to make it 2-0.

Pennicooke again threatened in the 28th minute, but although he beat White, his effort came back off the post.

White then produced another impressive save to deny Kenly Deacon from four yards after he was picked out by Rashawn Livingston.

Kelson made it 3-0 in the 54th minute with a smart finish following a move initiated by Revaldo Mitchell.

Wilson pulled a goal back for Molynes a minute later with a strike from the edge of the box after Arnett’s defence failed to clear its lines.

However, Taylor restored Arnett’s three-goal advantage when he turned home from 10 yards to complete his brace.

Molynes coach Jermaine Thomas believed his team fell short at both ends of the field.

“Very disappointed. I thought we conceded some really soft ones. We created some good scoring chances at the other end and we never took them, and if you’re not scoring simple ones and you’re letting in easy ones, you are going to have nights like this,” Thomas stated.

The defeat saw Molynes slip to 10th in the standings on six points.
