No wonder people couldn't wait for Europe Day. Head of the European Union (EU) Delegation, Ambassador Marco Mazzocchi Alemanni, had promised a great time and on Wednesday May 12, he delivered at his Jack's Hill residence. He was busy all evening, making sure the fine details were attended to - from the food (kudos to Lorraine Fung) to the champagne for the toasting.

He spoke of the substantial support to Jamaica in the form of grants and expressed confidence in the resilience and entrepreneurship of Jamaicans to overcome the economic mire the country is in. He also lauded Jamaica's assistance to Haiti as well as the presence of the EU in that country.

Live music is always a joy for an audience, and when the two performers are Marcia Griffiths and Boris Gardiner, the party can only get better. And did it! Griffiths started with Tell Me Now, before doing others such as Dreamland, pulled up All My Life and had guests doing the Electric Boogie. Gardiner made the women swoon with hits like So Nice To Be With You and even took up the guitar for renditions including Forever My Darling.

Guests out included Deputy Prime Minister Dr Ken Baugh, Housing Minister Dr Horace Chang, St Kitts High Commissioner Cedric Harper, Venezuelan Ambassador Noel Martinez, Argentine Ambassador Mario Pino, Brazilian Ambassador Alexander Gueiros, Ambassador Elinor Sherlock, Ricardo Allicock, Peter Makwarela, Igor Hevia, Guillermo Hernandez, Alberto and Monica Menghini, Mike and Jo Seaman, Chris and Marion Duggan, Commander John McFarlane, Richard and Carolyn Gomes and Derek Jones.

Also out were Kay Osborne, Milton Walker, Wyvolyn Gager, Lisa Marzouca, Chris Issa, Kingsley Cooper and Romae Gordon, Dr Johnathan Greenland and wife Dr Rebecca Tortello, Michael and Thalia Lyn, Sylvia Collister, Keith Collister and Carol Pessoa, Morin and Verla Seymour, Richard Lake and Lisa Hanna, Yvonne Clarke, Professor Anthony Clayton, Joan McDonald, Andrea Bickhoff-Benjamin, Earl Witter, Sancia Bennett-Templar, Michael and Keva Hylton, Peter and Velia Espeut, Maureen Webber, Pierre and Karlene Lemaire, Charles Hanna, Nigel Pagon, Dr Michael Banbury, Anthony Miller, Hertha Beckmann, Susan Alexander and Irena Cousins.
