An accident waiting to happen

This section of the road at the intersection of North Street and South Camp Road is sinking, leaving a dangerous hazard that has already dented a number of motorists' rims. In particular, unsuspecting motorists turning on to South Camp Road from North Street are unlikely to know of the danger, until it is too late.
Motorists travelling along Braeton Parkway in Portmore, St Catherine, are regularly forced to dodge deep potholes that line the entire stretch of road. As this main road has no street lights, the dangerous potholes are not visible from a distance at night, leaving motorists to suddenly swing out of the way or risk damaging their rims.

There has been, for some years now, an ongoing campaign to reduce the number of accidents and fatalities on Jamaican roads. While reckless behaviour plays a substantial part, there is no doubt that more must be done to make the roads themselves safer for driving. There can be no good excuse for the failure to repair the many damaged roads that have the potential to be responsible for, at best, busted tyres and, at worst, horrible tragedies.
