Sarwan in, Chanderpaul out of Guyana squad
GEORGETOWN, Guyana (CMC):
Ramnaresh Sarwan will make his return to top-level competitive action, following a recent hamstring injury, when he leads Guyana in the Caribbean Twenty20 Championship, starting later this month.
The Guyanese, however, will be without Shivnarine Chander-paul, their other World-class batsman, for the competition, which will be contested from July 22 to 31 in Barbados and Trinidad.
Sarwan was sidelined during the recent home series against South Africa, when he pulled a hamstring while batting in the second one-day international on May 24 at the Vivian Richards Cricket Ground.
International stars
Sarwan did play in the Jamaica Cricket Festival, which was a preparatory series for West Indies ahead of the Twenty20 World Cup that was staged in the Caribbean.
The Guyana Cricket Board has remained silent on Chanderpaul's omission, but he was advertised to play for Lancashire in the English County Championship.
There are only two newcomers in the squad. They are fast bowling all-rounder Paul Wintz, and pugnacious former national youth batsman Jonathon Foo.
Squad: Ramnaresh Sarwan (captain), Christopher Barnwell, Davendra Bishoo, Sewnarine Chattergoon, Derwin Christian, Esaun Crandon, Royston Crandon, Lennox Cush, Narsingh Deonarine, Travis Dowlin, Jonathan Foo, Assad Fudadin, Steven Jacobs and Paul Wintz.
