The Shipping Association of Jamaica's Public Relations Assistant, Yahneake Sterling, has been installed as president of the Rotaract Club of Liguanea Plains (RCLP). The installation took place on July 30 at Hotel Four Seasons.

Sterling who served as vice-president of the club last year, and was also the recipient of the 'President's award for service above self', vowed to build on the work of Charter President Tasha Wilson, while forging a new path for the club.

Referring to the theme for the Rotaract year 2010-2011, 'Transforming Our World, One Community at a Time', Sterling said, "We will begin the transformation of our community by implementing a mentorship and homework-assistance programme at the National Children's Home."

She noted that the club would continue its work with the New Providence Primary School in St Andrew, and strengthen its partnership with parent organisation, the Rotary Club of Liguanea Plains. She further said that, among other things, the club will strive to bring health care to communities across Jamaica.

Sterling said that while service to the community will be the key area of focus for the club, plans are afoot to provide the club's membership with professional grooming, to allow for sustainable development of the club.

She added that partnerships with other community-based Rotaract Clubs, such as the Rotaract Clubs of Kingston, St Andrew and New Kingston, is another way in which RCLP will expand its reach and provide meaningful service to the community.

Members of RCLP who will lead the club in the Rotaract year are: Tanya Walters, vice-president; Michelle Rattigan, secretary; Lionel Blackwood, treasurer; Kevin Clarke, public relations director; Sigmund Anderson, professional services director, Khadrea Folkes, fund-raising director, Aleisha Martin, sergeant of arms; Kerry-Ann Ebanks, international services director and charter president Tasha Wilson as community services director.
