Jones relishing partnership with Reggae Boy Fuller
STOKE-ON-TRENT,
England (CMC):
Trinidadian striker Kenwyne Jones is relishing the thought of forming a new partnership with Reggae Boy Ricardo Fuller, following his eight million pound sterling move to Stoke City this week.
The 25-year-old frontman made a hasty departure from Sunderland just days before the start of the new Premiership season, joining Stoke on a four-year deal for a club-record fee.
Jones will now link up with Fuller who has spent the last four seasons campaigning in West Midlands.
"We will see how that goes. I have worked with Ricardo before at Southampton, so maybe we can strike a partnership to help take this club forward," the six-foot, one-inch Jones said.
"It's nice being with him again because on and off the pitch, we have an understanding. We are good friends and, hopefully, that will tell in our game."
Credible placing
The 30-year-old Fuller has become a favourite at the Britannia Stadium since joining in the summer of 2006 from Southampton.
A goalscorer with good strength and pace, Fuller played a key role last season in helping Stoke to a credible 11th.
"He's a typical Caribbean striker. He works hard and applies his skill to the game," Jones said of Fuller.
Jones' move will signal his second stint at Stoke after serving a loan spell there during the 2005 season under current manager Tony Pulis.
Largely inexperienced in the English game at the time, Jones netted three times in 13 outings and is hoping to build on that experience.
"I was young back then and just breaking into the league. It was a good experience for me here and I've come on leaps and bounds since then," Jones pointed out.
"The club has changed a lot, but I remember the stadium and the supporters being very good. Firstly, I have to do it for the team and then the crowd will see the end result for the team."
