LIME beat Jamalco
LIME advanced to the semi-finals of the Best Dressed Chicken 30-over KO Business House cricket competition last Sunday when they defeated Jamalco by 10 runs in a low-scoring match at Chalmers Avenue.
Despite having players of the calibre of national batsman Horace Miller and former Jamaica and West Indies Under-19 player Andre McCarthy, LIME were bowled out for only 90 in 22.5 overs - Omar Allison 35, McCarthy 15; spinner Collis Johnson 4-9, Derrick Spence 2-12. Jamalco in reply were skittled out for 80 - Johnson and Barrington Brown 20 each; Fitzroy Peterkin 4-12, Damion Jacobs 3-20.
The other scheduled 30-over match between home team JUTC and defending champions Jamaica Broilers at Jose Marti was not played, as JUTC failed to show. As a result, Jamaica Broilers have been awarded full points and advance to the final, having drawn a bye in the semis.
Only two matches are scheduled in tomorrow's second round of the Noranda Jamaica Bauxite Partners 35-over KO competition. These are LIME vs Sagicor at Chalmers Avenue and National Housing Trust vs OCS Electrical at Mico, both starting at 11 a.m.
STATIN still unbeaten in BH domino
The Wray & Nephew-sponsored Business House domino competition is now in high gear, with three teams sharing the lead in Division I after six rounds of matches.
In Division II, STATIN are unbeaten in six matches, enjoying the distinction of being the only undefeated team in the entire competition.
On Friday, August 13 Jamaica Brandy lost for the first time this season in a sixth-round match at Wray & Nephew, Spanish Town Road. Berger defeated them 145-138.
Despite the loss, Brandy are joint leaders with defending champions Seprod and Wray & Nephew Limited with 52 points each.
Meanwhile, Seprod drubbed JPS 144-115 in an away match at JPS, Wray & Nephew beat JUTC 132-124, while Jamaica Fire Brigade clipped last year's Division II champions National Continental Baking Company 125-123 at York Park Fire Station.
In Division II action, STATIN pipped Pepsi 142-140, Courts whipped NHT 150-94, Tastee drubbed UWI 150-116 and NCB clipped Chas Ramson 150-149. RJR Sports Club failed to show for their match against home team Norman Manley International Airport.
The second round of the KO competition will be played on Friday, August 27 at Jacisera Park.
The Dip are SVL skittles champions
The Dip from Gregory Park emerged the first-ever Supreme Ventures/Dragon Spitfire seven-a-side skittles champions, defeating Mystix 4-2 last Sunday in the final at The Dip.
After racing into a 3-0 lead, The Dip withstood a determined challenge from Mystix for the $60,000 prize and trophy, but only after Huntley Chaplin had come from behind to beat Vernon Thomas 1260-0460 in the crucial match.
Results of the games played are as follows (The Dip players named first):
Clifford Walker beat Danny Wellington 1060-0350, Alphanso Green clipped Cleveland Murray 0540—0400, Anthony Byfield beat Tony Reid 0500-0400 to make it 3-0, while Samuel Smith lost to Neville Nelson 960-1050, Harold Buchanan lost to Clifton Williams 0370-1070, before Chaplin beat Thomas.
The runners-up received $40,000, while Eagles defeated Dragon 4-2 in the third-place play-off to secure $20,000, with Dragon receiving $10,000 for fourth.
The Dip's captain, Trevor Bailey, received the cheque and trophy from Sonny Davidson, vice-president, corporate communications, at Supreme Ventures Limited.
The next tournament, the Christmas Bonanza five-a-side, will be held November-December.
Jamalco top Windalco
Defending champions Jamalco beat rivals Windalco 57-47 to highlight last weekend's round of the Juici-Patties-sponsored Clarendon Senior Netball League, played at the Mineral Heights Sports Complex.
Former national players Elaine Davis (35 from 39 attempts) and Marsha Murphy ( 22 from 27) dominated the scoresheet. It was Jamalco's sixth win of the preliminary round. They are now the first team to qualify for the second round. It was Windalco's second straight loss, having gone down the previous week to the surprise team Mico University.
Mico, who have five wins so far with a game in hand, were awarded full points after Optimist failed to show for the second straight game. According to the rules, Optimist have been automatically booted from the competition for missing two consecutive games. This week's action features the highly anticipated clash between the two favourites, Jamalco and Mico. Windalco will oppose Holmwood B while there is a high school clash between Holmwood A and Denbigh A.
Hayes achieved their second win last week after battling to 40-36 victory over Denbigh A. Amorita Smith was the star, netting 31 from 36 attempts.
In the Junior Division, Longsville continue to dictate the pace, securing their sixth straight win, shutting out Denbigh B 22-11. Third-place Glenmuir defeated McRebuilders 20-10, Claremont edged Humble Lion 25-20, while Toll Gate eased past Gravel Hill 26-14. The game between second-place Ricam of Mandeville and Fogo was postponed.
In tomorrow's Junior League the matches are: Longsville vs Glenmuir (feature), Ricam vs Humble Lion, Toll Gate vs Denbigh B and Fogo vs McRebuilders.
Quarter-finals time in Cobbla Church League
It's quarter-final time in the Cobbla Church football league, which is sponsored and organised by the New Testament Church of God and played at the Cobbla Youth Camp grounds.
In tomorrow's first set of quarter-final games, Village play West Road at 2 p.m. while Mile Gully face Richmond at 4 p.m.
Last week's preliminary round was highlighted by an entertaining game between the firm favourites to win the competition, George North, who defeated West Road 2-1. Knoxia Rhoden and Avadine Ellington got the goals for George North who topped Zone B on maximum 15 points from five wins. Dwayne 'Shouca' Brown, playing his last game in the league as he leaves for the USA on a football scholarship, scored the consolation goal for West Road.

Porus Under-15 league
Two teams, Settlement and Harmons, have already cemented their places in the semi-finals of the Western Union-sponsored Porus Under-15 football league.
Settlement and Harmons secured their place early from Zone A, while Tuff Gong booked their place from a keenly contested Zone B with a 3-0 win over Broad Leaf in last weekend's penultimate round. Tuff Gong's win lifted them to relative safety and 13 points, thereby breaking a three-way dead-lock on 10 points with Broad Leaf and Clarendon representatives, Ebony Stars.
Rising Stars have since made a gallant late run to remain in contention after beating Ebony Stars 2-0. They then attained 13 points after they beat lowly placed Chillzone 3-0 in midweek action. Ebony Stars also rebounded, ending Broad Leaf's campaign with a 2-1 win.
Two games tomorrow - Rising Star versus Genus and Chillzone versus Tuff Gong - will decide the remaining semi-final spots. The semi-finals are scheduled for next Wednesday at the Porus Community Centre.
Portmore, Wanderers again
In a repeat of last year's final, defending champions Portmore United and Wanderers will meet in the Pines Imaging Centre Portmore Under-17 Football League title game tomorrow at Ferdie Neita Park. Match time is 4 p.m.

Wins for Colours, Ken's, Washington
Defending champions Colours International, Ken's Wildflower and Washington registered victories as the Wray and Nephew White Overproof Rum Portmore Cricket League opened Sunday.

Jamalco Football League
New champions will be crowned in the Jamalco Football league after Sunset failed to advance from their preliminary group.
They were beaten 4-1 by Mocho, a team which also failed to make the cut to the second round. Sunset finished a disappointing last place in Zone A, where they garnered only one point, conceding 10 goals while only scoring two.
Top Hill won the honours in Zone A after tagging Hunts Pen 2-0 to finish unbeaten with four wins and maximum 12 points. Second place went to Bottom Halse Hall, who ended on nine points from three wins.
The situation in Zones B and C remained unresolved. Action in the disciplinary room as well as on the field of play in this weekend's round will decide those quarter-final places. Juventus and Wembley are locked on 10 points after finishing their quota of five games.
Savannah, seven, and New Bowens, six, follow but have only completed four games. The two are on collision course when they meet later today at Wembley at 4 p.m.
Invincible are sitting pretty on 10 points atop Zone C, leading Napoli, nine, who have already completed their fixtures. Mineral Heights are next on eight points. A battle royal with Invincible is expected tomorrow to decide the second-place challengers. Railroad (5 points) have an outside chance. They play out-of-contention Port today at 2 p.m. but their hopes are pinned to an Invincible victory.
Firemen lead in Clarendon Business House
May Pen Fire Brigade are the early leaders in the Tait's Pharmacy-sponsored Clarendon Business House Six-a-side League, following their 1-0 win over Stewart's Hardware. The 'Firemen' have six points from two games to top Zone A.
Glass &Windows, who have replaced the studio/artiste representatives, marked their entry with a 3-0 win over the May Pen Police for three points and second place behind the Firemen. Six other teams have just one point in Zone A.
Zone B results: May Pen Hospital outscored Epic Hardware 3-2 while Sinclair's Bargain Centre outran Transport 2-1. Five teams, with three points each, share the lead in Zone B.
The league continues tomorrow at the Mineral Heights football field with seven games: Govt Agencies vs Fire Brigade, Police vs Mack Chem, Carryshell vs Glass & Windows, JPS vs Stewart's Hardware, Sinclair's vs Young's Pharmacy, Courts vs Transport and Epic vs JNBS.
