'Fantastic' running makes Carter proud
KINGSTON, Jamaica (CMC):
Nesta Carter brought his calendar of events for the season to a close last week and has described his performance as 'fantastic'.
The Jamaican sprinter ran an impressive 9.78 seconds two Sundays ago in Rieti, Italy, to become the fourth-fastest man over 100 metres.
Only world 100m record holder and compatriot Usain Bolt (9.58), American Tyson Gay (9.69) and another Jamaican Asafa Powell (9.72) have gone faster.
"It was a fantastic season starting off in May in Doha, where I ran 9.8," said Carter, adding training partner Powell gave him plenty of encouragement throughout the season.
"It feels good to be among the top guys in the world, like Usain, Asafa, and Tyson," he said.
"Nesta Carter is next in line, so I'm really proud of myself. It's the end of the season and I'm really happy that I ended it without getting any major injuries."
Carter is also well aware that Jamaica will have four spots in the 100 at next year's World Championships in Japan.
Bolt, like all defending champions, receives a bye into the meet and so Carter is bent on getting himself razor sharp for next year to secure on the places.
"It's a competitive year coming up and I'm just going to put in the hard work and hope for the best," he concluded.
