KRAFT Foods Jamaica has raised US$30,000 for the Earthquake Relief Fund. Increments from the fund will assist aid workers in their efforts to relieve suffering and help in rebuilding the lives of both Haiti and Chile earthquake survivors.

The cheque presentation was made recently and both the Haitian and Chilean representatives: Chargé d' Áffaires Max Alce and Ambassador Alfredo Garcia, as well as Jamaica Red Cross president, Dr Jaslin Salmon, were present. Contributions will help fund the distributions of food, clean water, contribute towards housing and other necessities.

The plight of our neighbours is parallel to Jamaicans who face daily challenges to remain alive was also recognised by Kraft Foods, and locals were included in the outreach. Local distributor Facey Merchandise Limited of Kraft Foods products in Jamaica has facilitated this special fund based on a percentage of sales of specific participating Kraft products for a specified period.

From purchases of Kraft Foods products, the funds will be dispersed as follows:

  • Haitian Relief Fund - US$12,000
  • Chilean Relief Fund - US$12,000
  • Jamaica Red Cross Meals on Wheels programme - US$6,000

Kraft Foods thanks the Jamaican consumers of their products for their excellent support.
