Online feedback

Below are edited excerpts from comments posted online at www.jamaica-gleaner.com by readers to yesterday's lead story 'Rush on for Tomas'. Reactions to another story 'Buju's retrial moved to February' are also posted.

Secure yourself

To the people of Jamaica, please do not allow this to happen to you and your family. Secure your safety, because no Government can never secure the safety of all the people. Do what you know is best, and don't find yourselves in this desperate and ugly situation.

Again Jamaica is prone to disaster, so from now on, make sure you talk to your MP and councillors about your safety for the future. They are put into government to look after you, therefore, let them know clearly what you need to be done. I (we) all pray that this hurricane does not affect you, but God knows best.

Some can't do better

I wouldn't say people are stupid to build in some of the areas that have flooded or have massive land slippage. A lot of people have inherited those lands, with nowhere else to go, as people don't have money to up and get a better piece of land. Do you think people will willingly stay in areas because they want to get flooded out? I don't think so. Most of them can't do better.

Getting back at Buju?

I see Buju's charges as a vendetta more than being related to him really breaking the law. It's all about getting back at him for his anti-gay lyrics of the past.

So sad

Sad, so sad. God be with this man. Help him Lord.

Why, Oh, why?

Further proof they are conspiring to punish an innocent man. Why does he still sit in jail?

Already tried

Well, I think Buju's case is already tried and decided. Don't be surprised if before February, you hear it's postponed again. This should be a lesson for all people. The only good news may be that even if, after trial, they find him guilty as charged, his sentence may just boil down to time already served and he will be released.
