A MINISTRY of Education audit of the Islington High School in St Mary and subsequent investigation by the Fraud Squad have led to the arrest of Neslia Brown, bursar at the institution, for larceny.
Brown, who is on secondment to a government ministry, was taken into custody by the Fraud Squad last Friday.
Following an interview with the police, she was charged with larceny as a servant.
Police Constable Kevin Johnson, of the Fraud Squad, told The Gleaner yesterday that the Ministry of Education called his department last year after an audit uncovered irregularities at the school.
According to reports, Brown, through a third party, entered into an arrangement to deliver goods to the school's canteen.
The bursar prepared invoices in the third party's name to supply items to the school amounting to $184,424.53.
However, it was later discovered that the goods were not supplied to the institution.
Brown is to appear before the Port Maria Resident Magistrate's Court on February 17.
The fraud was detected in September last year.
