The temperature was turned up several degrees in the Studio 38 live music series as Lady Saw delivered a healthy dose of wit, lechery and mature entertainment at the Trafalgar Road venue on Friday night.

With equally perfect servings of Marion Hall and Lady Saw, the 'mumma of dancehall' took her audience on a journey of her catalogue which has defined her career.

That journey included her recent hits, new tracks from her My Way album and raunchy classics from the '90s.

Saw, who took frequent sips of Nuvo during her performance, connected with the audience when she started off with Millionaire and Sicamore Tree.

Lessons for the women

Her libidinous nature soon took centre stage and stole the show, which included impromptu lessons and advice to the women in the audience - and they lapped it up.

"Lady Saw was awesome," said one patron, who gave her name as Kim.

"We love her because she is real, a strong voice for women and a great entertainer, and we saw all of that tonight."

Among the many high points were Lady Saw's forthright approach to a male audience member she seduced onstage, and salacious lessons to the women on how to keep their men.

The intimate setting at Studio 38 was also the right occasion for the sobering moments that revealed Saw's sensitive side - such as her story of multiple miscarriages, the desire to have a child of her own and the unconditional love she has for her 'adopted children'.

Those revelations were followed by No Less Than a Woman and Silly Heart, the mood of the audience shifting accordingly.

Lady Saw's performance was preceded by the Pulse Fashion Fix, featuring the last nine contestants standing in the current Pulse Model Search Petite Reality TV show.

Since Studio 38 opened its doors 14 months ago, the bistro on Trafalgar Road has presented such old-school and new-school luminaries as Tanya Stephens, Beres Hammond, Toots Hibbert, Ken Booth, the late great Gregory Isaacs (who gave his last performance at Studio 38), John Holt, Freddie McGregor, Tarrus Riley, Beenie Man, George Nooks, Leroy Sibbles, URoy, Pluto Shervington, Ernie Smith, Yellowman, Pinchers, Admiral Bailey, among others.
