JGRA president criticises wagonists

PRESIDENT OF the Jamaica Gasolene Retailers Association (JGRA), Trevor Heaven, has criticised a number of organisations, which he said are not doing enough to ease the financial burden of Jamaicans.
Heaven, who was addressing members of the Rotary Club of Mandeville last Tuesday, said some private sector organsaitions were slow in lending their support to the JGRA's early call for the Government to roll back the tax on gasolene.
Calling them wagonists, Heaven said their early support would have spurred Government to be more responsive to the pressure.
Heaven called for a greater reduction on the gas tax as, he said, the general consumption tax, which has been added to electricity usage, was creating a windfall for Government. He further stated that while the Government did eventually reduce the ad valorem tax on gas by five per cent, the JGRA had called for a reduction of 15 per cent.
