Tivoli lead cut to one after Harbour View draw

It was not a spectacle, but in the end, league leaders Tivoli Gardens survived a nervous trip to the Harbour View Mini Stadium in their penultimate Digicel Premier League contest, holding out for a 0-0 draw which saw their lead reduced to just one point.

This result, coupled with Boys' Town's 2-0 victory at Waterhouse, ensures that there is still all to play for when both teams meet in their title-deciding clash at the Edward Seaga Sports Complex on Sunday, with Tivoli inching up by one to 69 points, one more than Boys' Town, which earned three points from yesterday's win.

Considering what was at stake, it's little surprise that the Harbour View-Tivoli Gardens contest took the intense and cagey shape that it did, particularly in the first half of play.

Both teams did most of their work in the middle of the park, resulting in very little action in either offensive third.

Tivoli Gardens were anything but their usual attacking selves and struggled throughout the match - particularly in the opening period - to construct any meaningful openings.

It was an engrossing, if not exciting clash of styles, with the hosts looking to pass the ball along the ground and hold possession, while Tivoli Gardens mainly employed a counter-attacking set-up, with Navion Boyd deployed on the right wing.

ejected

There were, however, a few chances in the second half, among them Harbour View's Kemeel Wolfe forcing goalkeeper Edsel Scott into a low save at his near post in the 65th minute.

Harbour View's Marcelino Blackburn was ejected afterwards for a foul on Christopher Jackson in the 77th minute.

But before the Harbour View protests had died down, Tivoli's Damion Gordon also received marching orders, for a second bookable offence in minute 84.

Ronique Muir spurned a glorious opportunity in added time to steal a win for Harbour View, somehow firing his shot wide from inside the box, after taking advantage of a Tivoli Gardens defensive mix-up.
