THE EDITOR, Sir:

The constituency of North West St Catherine has suffered from a lack of growth and development since the demise of the late Jack Stephenson.

This honourable man was the only representative who instituted a programme for the growth and development of youth and others in the constituency. I speak of the Charlemont farmers' cooperative, which died when he died.

We of the constituency bemoan this loss every day. The Jamaica Labour Party and the People's National Party (PNP), which Mr Stephenson represented, should be ashamed of themselves for helping to cause the demise of development.

The leader of the PNP, Portia Simpson Miller, should be very concerned about the lack of growth and progress of the people of North West St Catherine, who have not seen any progress - social or economic - for the past 20 years.

Mrs Simpson Miller needs to rein in the current representative, Mr Robert Pickersgill, who has lost the vision of governance and seems to be too old to manage. He needs to resign and join the pension line.
