Sir Patrick names Clarendon's new custos
GOVERNOR GENERAL Sir Patrick Allen has appointed William Shagoury, chairman of the Clarendon Crime Prevention Committee, as the new custos rotulorum for Clarendon, effective August 1.
Shagoury will replace James deRoux, who was appointed to the position on May 5, 1981, and has the distinction of being the longest- serving custos. His 30-year tenure spans that of four governors general. He has acted as deputy governor general on three occasions.
In a release form King's House on Wednesday, Sir Patrick expressed appreciation for deRoux's sterling contribution, and the indelible mark he has left on the role of custos. Sir Patrick has also applauded deRoux for his hard work, integrity and commitment to service, both as custos and on the occasions that he has served as deputy governor general.
Shagoury was FirstCaribbean International Bank's regional unsung hero runner-up for his service to humanity in 2004.
He has received some 35 awards from service clubs, government and civic groups, for over 36 years of contribution to community development.
