In-form national champion and master, Damion Davy, heads a list of four players who are currently in Dallas, Texas representing the University of the West Indies (UWI) at the Pan American Inter-Collegiate Chess Championships.

The others are national Under-18 champion Stuart James, national junior champion Miguel Asher and 2010 national junior champion Zachary Ramsay.

The championship is slated to end on December 31.

Davy, who earlier this year won the national championships as well as the regional UMADA Chess Challengers' Cup in Bridgetown, Barbados, is slated to represent UWI on Board One.

James and Ramsay, who are both candidate masters and have represented Jamaica in the past, will play on Boards Two and Three, while Asher, fresh from representing Jamaica at the recent Sagicor Caribbean Junior Chess Championships in Barbados, will compete on Board Four.

It is the second time that UWI are participating in the championships, which features some of the best college and university teams in North, South and Central America and the Caribbean.

Prior to the championships, UWI played two practice matches against the University of Technology (UTech) and a team of active National Masters.

They defeated UTech 3-1 and drew 2-2 with the National Masters team.

FIDE Master, Warren Elliot, also assisted the team in their preparation.

The team is hoping to take home the coveted "Best International Team" title, which is awarded to the university scoring the highest points outside of the United States, as well as other prizes.
