Waterhouse's Duckie happy with overall picture

Waterhouse did not advance to the end-of-second-round final but coach Donovan Duckie believes that his charges are well on their way to achieving their objective.

Needing to win their game against Humble Lion and for Portmore United or Montego Bay United to lose in their encounters, the Drewsland-based club took care of their own business with a 1-0 win over fellow contenders Humble Lion. Fate was not kind to them as both Portmore United and Montego Bay United won their matches to advance.

"I am grateful for the win and my only disappointment is with the result in the other games, as Montego Bay and Portmore won," Duckie said at the end of his team's game.

"What is important, though, is the overall picture. There is a way to win the Premier League and we know what we are doing. In the first round, we ended third and now we are second overall, and it is important for us to get a good cushion," said Duckie.

The game. Duckie said, was a well-balanced one with both teams playing to win.

For Duckie, the difference was that his team took one of their chances while Humble Lion did not take theirs.

"I think Humble Lion did well in the first half, created an opening and should have gone 1-0 up. We created two openings also and did not take one," Duckie explained.

Got a break

Carlington Smith was the guilty man for Humble Lion. Midway through the first half, he got a break on the Waterhouse goal when Theo Brown slipped and fell. With just goalkeeper Richard McCallum to beat Smith shot wide. That miss was to prove costly as Akeem Thenstead made no mistake when his opportunity came in the 49th minute.

"One is disappointed to lose any game, but it is the way how we lost that is particularly disappointing now," Hyde said.

"It is another corner ... a dead-ball situation, which is something that we have been working on in the training sessions, and we still came here and gave up one. If it was a different kind of goal then I would not feel so bad, but it is really disappointing," he added.
