Bacchanal brings something different to new Mas Camp
Curtis Campbell, Gleaner Writer
Bacchanal Jamaica recently launched the 2012 leg of carnival at the Knutsford Court Hotel. The launch was attended by prospective patrons and media personalities and while it was about serious business, the early carnival vibe was definitely present in the environment.
The host for the night was Sara Lawrence, and she introduced patrons to this year's concept, Future Shock.
According to Lawrence, the theme reflects the ability of the event to blend Jamaica's culture with the free and uplifting spirits that carnival facilitates.
This season, carnival will be hosted in a new home since Mas Camp is now located at Stadium North on the National Stadium Complex in St Andrew.
The concept of the new Mas Camp is expected to create an aura not dissimilar to the last venue.
There will be new features at the new Mas Camp, however, with Lawrence making mention of sky boxes, easy-access bathroom facilities and a VIP package.
Telecommunications company Digicel has hopped on-board the soca train for the 11th consecutive year.
LONGSTANDING PARTNERSHIP
"Digicel has been partnering with the Bacchanal team for over a decade - a relationship that has undoubtedly served as another avenue for us to continue engaging our customers, and we are looking forward to further connecting with them over the three-month period," said Shelly-Ann Curran, Digicel's senior sponsorship and activations manager, under her Future Shock moniker 'Robotika'.
The series of events will kick off with 'Bacchanal Fridays' on February
24 and 'Socacise' on February 27.
On April 7, the much-anticipated Bacchanal Beach J'ouvert will take place at James Bond Beach in Oracabessa, St Mary.
As is customary, the season will conclude with the highly anticipated
road march on April 15.
The launch ended with Renaissance Disco playing some popular soca songs while patrons ignited the carnival fire by putting on a show inside the Knutsford Court Hotel ballroom.
