King, Beckford on target
LONDON, England (CMC):
Out-of-favour Jamaica striker Marlon King and Reggae Boy-in-waiting Jermaine Beckford both scored in the English Championship on Saturday, but came away with contrasting results.
King was on target for Birmingham, who squandered a 2-0 lead at home to Derby to draw 2-2 at home, while Beckford's second-half strike helped secure a 2-0 triumph for Leicester City over Coventry.
Playing at St Andrew's Stadium, Erik Huseklepp poked in from close range to give Birmingham the lead in the 19th minute, before King drove home Andros Townsend's pass in the 57th.
An unmarked Ben Davies then pulled one back four minutes late and Theo Robinson hauled the visitors level with his 66th-minute strike.
At the King Power Stadium, Leicester stumbled out the blocks when Neil Danns missed an eighth-minute penalty.
However, David Nugent made up for the disappointment three minutes later, when he volleyed home after goalkeeper David Murphy had parried a Beckford shot.
Up 1-0 at the half, Beckford put the seal on the victory on the hour-mark with the easiest of tap-ins after a smooth build-up between Nugent and Richard Wellens.
