UWI Western Jamaica Campus welcomes new students to Montego Bay
MONTEGO BAY, Jamaica:
The University of the West Indies, Mona, will welcome nearly 800 new and returning students to its annual orientation exercise at the Western Jamaica Campus (WJC) in Montego Bay for the new academic year.
The campus is promising an inspiring orientation programme scheduled to run from Sunday, August 26 to Friday, August 31.
Approximately 200 new students are expected to begin studies at UWI WJC in undergraduate degree programmes in medicine and nursing, digital media production, integrated market communication, management information systems, management studies, accounts, banking and finance, and human resource management.
Newly appointed campus director, Dr Luz Longsworth, said this year's orientation also marks a new chapter in the life of the UWI in the west.
"This academic year will see a thrust towards developing even more exciting programmes and activities which will focus more specifically on the needs of the people and business community of Montego Bay and western Jamaica in general," she said.
Tourism Product Development Company (TPDCo) regional manager, Winston McKane, will kick off the week-long activities as keynote speaker at the opening ceremony tomorrow at 11 a.m.
Other activities include sessions for parents and spouses of new students; advice on financing, study tips, and academic advising by faculty from both the Western Jamaica and Mona campuses. A heritage tour of Montego Bay is also planned for the International students as well as those from other parts of Jamaica.
The Western Jamaica Campus of UWI Mona was opened in 2008.
