Mayor insists Falmouth Police Station will meet Sept deadline

FALMOUTH, Trelawny:With the soldiers working all night until 5 a.m. Wednesday, laying the pipelines for the sewage system of the new Falmouth Police Station, it is a clear indication that meeting the September 19 deadline will be an uphill task.
Mayor of Falmouth Councillor Garth Wilkinson, who gave the deadline, is adamant that the date is going to be met. "The date will be met, but the biggest problem right now, is the sewage connection, but I have the assurance that this will be done."
However, for many residents, this is another false alarm based on what has happened previously. Ground was broken for the station in October 2001 by former Minister of National Security K.D. Knight making it now eleven years in the making, thus the scepticism.
The mayor was insistent that manpower and funding were not problems as $893 million was sourced from a PetroCaribe loan. He added that the money included doing other things in the town.
The mayor said that the completion will mean a more unified and coordinated approach to crime fighting, as currently, the police personnel operate from three different locations and this puts a strain on their mobility.
The Falmouth police station is now slated for completion in September.
