Reno aim to kick-start 'rebuilding process' on winning note

WESTERN BUREAU:The Western Confederation Captain's Bakery & Grill Super League gets cracking today with a double-header at Jarrett Park featuring two of last season's demoted Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) clubs.

At 3 p.m., Granville FC tackle former champions Reno then at five o'clock, last year's beaten finalist Wadadah FC clash with the demoted Village United.

Reno, who are undergoing a quiet revolution following their disastrous 2011-12 RSPL campaign which saw them relegated alongside Village, are expected be keenly tested by a Granville team that has proved willing spoilers over the last two seasons.

The club's long-time technical director, Wendell Downswell, says the off season has given them enough time to reassess the future of the club and implement much-needed change.

"This club has been in a rebuilding process since we were relegated from the Premier League at the end of the season. Obviously, we all want the best for Reno so it cannot be business as usual," warned Downswell.

"The prevailing culture has to change and we are taking steps to do so, starting with the rebuilding of a strong management team to drive the effort of regeneration."

Village, too, will be seeking to strengthen their claim for a return to top-flight football and hope to begin with a win in their first outing of the season against a formidable Wadadah unit.

The winner will pocket $150,000, second-place finishers will take home $75,000, third $50,000 and fourth $30,000. The mid-season champion will be $20,000 richer and the runner-up is to get $10,000.
