Ambitious Reno lead the pack

When action resumes in the 2012-13 Captain's Bakery and Grill Western Confederation Super Football League early in the New Year, the race for supremacy should heat up as several teams are now well positioned in the 12-team competition, which is divided into two zones.
Among the teams who were sitting comfortably going into the Christmas break is three-time Red Stripe National Premier League (NPL) champions Reno FC, who made it three wins from three starts in Group Two with their 1-0 win over the highly rated Tomorrow's People at the Frome Sports Complex in Westmoreland last Sunday.
Reno owe their latest win to The Manning's School's daCosta Cup midfielder Melvin Blair, who got the game's lone goal in the 36th minute. The Paul 'Tegat' Davis-coached Tomorrow's People, who was losing for the first time this season, ended the game with 10 players as defender Rohan Bernard was ejected via a red card.
Catherine Hall FC, who currently lead Group One with seven points, are also showing good form and their 2-0 win against Petersfield FC has strengthened their hand as a legitimate contender for the title. Jahmal Morrison (61st) and Omar Gayle (67th minute) got the goals for Catherine Hall.
Catherine Hall, a perennial top-flight title contender in this league, which annually serves as a Red Stripe NPL qualifying tournament, are currently the ones who have not conceded a goal to date. Interestingly, they have scored five times.
VILLAGE GOING WELL
Village United, one of three former NPL contenders in the competition, are also having a decent season, playing in Group One, alongside Catherine Hall. With two wins and a loss in three games, the Trelawny team should feel reasonably satisfied with their six points.
In their last outing, Village United clipped Harmony FC 1-0 in their Trelawny derby, courtesy of a 43rd-minute strike by Devron Clarke.
The full points standings in the two groups read as follows: Group One: Catherine Hall - 7, Village United - 8, Harmony FC - 4, Wadadah FC - 4, Logwood FC - 1 and Petersfield FC - 0. Group Two: Reno FC - 9, Tomorrow's People - 6, Holland FC - 4, Bamboo FC - 4, Granville FC - 1 and Norwood Strikers - 1.
