WESTERN BUREAU:The revamped Edwards Preparatory and Kindergarten School in Coral Gardens, Montego Bay was reopened last Friday with the blessing of Suffragan Bishop of Montego Bay, the Right Reverend Leon Golding.

Principal Dr Ifeoma Njoku said the school would function on Howard Gardner's theory of multiple intelligence and support learning across all the domains.

"We have adequate and highly trained staff to provide the services that would be required. We also include foreign languages - Spanish and French - as part of our academic offering. Extracurricular activities are part of our school curriculum in the area of music (piano, drumming), physical education and computer technology."

Njoku said the children would work with their predetermined strengths to explore interests through a constructivist curriculum, which allows children to develop areas of particular interest, which encourages exploration, is developmentally appropriate, makes learning mean-ingful and engages children in learning.

Guest speaker Cecil Davis, former deputy mayor of Montego Bay, said the school was a great asset that was equipped to engage young minds in a creative, and conducive environment.

HELP NEEDY

Davis said, especially this time of the year, people should become their brother's keeper, giving assistance to those who are needy especially in this holiday season.

The school boasts a reading and music room with requisite facilities to induce reading and develop the appreciation for music as well as the playing of instruments, including the guitar, keyboard and recorder.

The pulsating beats of Congo drums which resonated throughout the grounds and rhythmic movements of dancers from the Children of the Drums was one of the highlights of the opening which also included the cutting of the ribbon by Golding to officially declare the new playground open.
