Dr Joyce Robinson, who spent the vast majority of her life in the educational sector, passed away on Sunday at the University Hospital of the West Indies at the age of 87. Robinson was born in St James on July 2, 1925.

Robinson was the first managing director of the HEART Trust, and was known as well for her years spent as head of the Jamaica Library Service. She was also general manager at the Jamaica Broadcasting Corporation (currently Television Jamaica).

Anthony Robinson, her son, noted that Joyce had a passion for the development of Jamaica as was reflected in her areas of national service.

"She understood that Jamaica's development was to be achieved through the development of the people, so majority of her years were spent in national efforts to develop the Jamaican people, whether through literacy, through the access to reading material, books and through training as provided by the HEART programme," he told The Gleaner.

She is also survived by her daughter, Dr Ann Bridgewater, a medical practitioner, six grandchildren and other relatives.
