Wright won't seek JCA re-election

KINGSTON, Jamaica (CMC):

Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) President Lyndel Wright has announced that he will not be seeking re-election at the JCA's Annual General Meeting (AGM) carded for October.

Wright, a former national all rounder, says family and professional commitments are the reasons for his decision not to seek a second term.

Wright's announcement at a press briefing in Sabina Park was punctuated by brief emotional moments in which he was forced to wipe tears from his eyes.

"I'm not retiring, I'm not calling end of play, but I can serve no longer as the president of the JCA," Wright announced.

"I do not have the time … . Of course, I need some time with my wife and family."

Wright became JCA president after defeating then President Paul Campbell in elections two years ago.

Wright has dismissed suggestions that his decision to bow out was triggered after local financier William Heaven announced that he will be challenging him for the top spot.

"I wasn't pushed out, it's just a decision that I took … . I don't fear," declared 63-year-old Wright.

"What should I fear when I trust in God?"
