Cave Valley, HANOVER:

The Cave Valley Salvation Army Basic School in Hanover hosted its annual Career's Day event last week Thursday.

The tiny tots were treated to a series of presentations on various career choices throughout the day. However, the most popular was a presentation by Assistant Superintendent Rudolph Seaton and District Officer Taleeni Francis of the Hanover Fire Department, who captured the attention of the wide-eyed youngsters as they educated them about fire safety.

The students were dressed as teachers, nurses, doctors, policemen, soldiers, firemen, pilots, and air hostesses. Scores of parents were in attendance as well as mayor of Lucea and councillor of the Green Island division.

JOYFUL OCCASION

"I'm very happy to see the little ones dressed in their future uniforms," Mayor Haughton said. "We must continue to motivate the young and encourage them from now to aim high because there is no limit to learning.

"I want to commend Principal James-Brown and her staff for the very good job they are doing despite the challenges."

Principal of the school, Venamaye Jones-Brown, told Western Focus that she was pleased with the support given to the activity by the school's parent-teacher association.

"It's a way of highlighting careers and sensitising both students and parents on the various career choices that exist," she said. "From early this morning, the parents came out in their numbers and they were very excited as things like this don't happen much in these rural areas."

The Cave Valley Basic School has been in existence for more than 40 years and currently has 38 students.
