Jamaica made a losing start in the West Indies Cricket Board Under-15 tournament yesterday. They went down by eight wickets to defending champions Barbados at St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS), St Elizabeth.

Set 165 to win off 57 overs in their second innings, Barbados achieved their target at 165 for two off 43 overs on what was the second and final day of the encounter with opener Daniel Chesham scoring 84.

Jamaica, who earlier resumed on 68 for two in their second innings, went on to make 172 off 56.1 overs to set up the eventual run chase.

Opener Ricardo McIntosh of Clarendon College, who was not out 28 overnight, went on to make a top score with 70, while wicketkeeper Rashjni Roye of BB Coke High added two to his overnight 26.

Pace bowler Jamon Hoyte, four for 24, Keamar Burrowes three for 47, Joshua Bishop, 2-39 did most damage for visitors.

"I think they bowled in better areas, batted with more maturity and that is where they won the game," said Jamaica coach Carl Brissett.

"This could be due to the fact that they have a couple of returning players, and we have none. They concentrated better and for longer periods."

Jamaica, on Friday's day one, made 148 for eight declared off 40 overs in their first innings to which Barbados replied with 157 for eight declared off 40 overs.

Teams are allowed to bat a maximum of two and half hours in their first innings with the remaining time thereafter being divided into equal amounts overs per team based on a calculated rate of four minutes per over.

The day's other match between Trinidad and Tobago and the Windward Islands at Manley Horne Park, saw the former coming back after losing first innings to claim an outright win.

Dismissed

The Windwards, who made 135 off 33 overs and held Trinidad to 134 for five off their 33 overs to claim first-innings honours, were dismissed for a paltry 88 in their second innings.

Emmanuel Stewart made 20 against off-spinner Emilo Gopaul with four for 31.

Set 90 for victory, Trinidad then raced to 94 for one with Kirston Kallicharan and Crystian Thurton ending unbeaten on 39 and 25, respectively.
