Sumfest offers discounts for students
Reggae Sumfest, dubbed 'The Greatest Reggae Show on Earth', is offering a 20 per cent discount on ticket prices to tertiary students across the island as part of the festival's 21st anniversary celebrations.
Students with valid identification from The University of the West Indies, University of Technology, Mico University College, Northern Caribbean University, and University College of the Caribbean qualify for the discount and are welcome to register for discounted tickets via Reggae Sumfest online ticket partners www.touchtix.com.
Tickets may be purchased online with a credit card, or payment may be remitted to the Acropolis Gaming Lounge in Barbican or any Bill Express location islandwide - after the registration process has been completed.
Summerfest Productions, organisers of Reggae Sumfest, has initiated the incentive for local college students to accentuate the festival's coming-of-age experience - a milestone with which university students can readily identify. Ashley Miller, co-host of Television Jamaica's popular entertainment series Intense and a university student, commended the Reggae Sumfest team for the offer.
GOOD IDEA
"I think the discount offered to college students is a very good idea, and it encourages the younger crowds to support the event."
She also said she was looking forward to seeing Miguel's performance as well as the dancehall artistes' performance and outfits.
"I'm always excited to see what the artistes will wear on stage. At Reggae Sumfest, there is always something jaw-dropping happening. It always keeps you on your toes in anticipation of the next person on stage," she said.
College attendees who take advantage of the special will experience nail-biting performances from international acts such as Billboard chart topper rapper Flo Rida and Grammy Award-winning R&B sensation Miguel, and hard-hitting dancehall and reggae artistes like Chonixx, Tarrus Riley, Macka Diamond, RDX, Spice, Aidonia, Popcaan, and Damian Marley and the Ghetto Youths International Crew.
Reggae Sumfest commences with the Ultimate Beach Party on July 21 at Aquasol Theme Park in Montego Bay. Dancehall Night and International Nights 1 and 2 will take place from July 25 through 27 at Catherine Hall, Montego Bay.
The 2013 Staging of Reggae Sumfest is sponsored by Digicel, the Jamaica Tourist Board, Iberostar Hotels & Resorts, Secrets Resorts, Red Stripe, Pepsi, Courts, Grand Palladium, Half Moon, Holiday Inn, Round Hill Hotel, and The Gleaner Company Ltd.
